Model:Cycles 5 (Sequencer Logic)
This is the fifth video in my series about the Elektron Model:Cycles. I take a look at using the sequencer in a variety of different ways: live recording, grid recording, parameter locking, preset locking, conditional locking - possibly all the lockings. I've really enjoyed doing this series but I want to try doing a broader variety of channel videos. As I say at the end of the video: I'm making a conscious effort to do more frequent (and shorter) videos. I hope to do some things that are a little off the beaten path but still using a lot of the gear that many of us are familiar with (see below). Thanks for watching! TIMELINE 00:00 STARTER This is all one pattern. It employs conditional trigs and different scaling (length and timing) on some of the tracks. Leave a comment if you want more details. 00:48 INTRO [skippable] I gab about the sequencer features. I show a nerdy demo. It's somewhat like the "clock" pattern that I made for a Volca Drum video: ticks every second-or-so, chimes on the hour (within the precision of a few seconds). I think that could easily be improved on the Cycles. I also think you could probably make a sequence that does like 1 drum hit per year (somehow). 09:53 DEMO 1: Live Recording I do what I can here. I employ quantization (more just to show it vs. any particular dislike for off-grid timing). I also do some parameter locking in the live recording mode. I goofed the lighting, so used a bunch of overlays to make up for it. Fixed after this part (that's why we should always look at the daily's). 26:16 DEMO 2: Grid Recording (and FILL mode) 34:08 DEMO 3: Conditional Trigs (chance, NEI) Discussion of the chance knob vs. chance conditional trigs. I also do a preset lock and a send parameter lock. 44:28 DEMO 4: Conditional Trigs (not-NEI, PRE, not-PRE) These sorts of conditional trigs can make simple things become fairly complex. 56:03 OUTRO I discuss some ideas for the channel, moving forward. Next video will be about the Kastle 1.5 from Bastl Instruments. 1:00:22 SLOW BIRDS This is like a mini Delta Waves video to wrap the whole Model:Cycles series up. It is admittedly strange, maybe even a little unsettling. I love birds and heard one singing outside early one morning. I recorded like 20 minutes of it - and then stretched it by a factor of 8 - so 1/8th speed. The 20 minutes became almost 3 hours - and I've listened to the whole thing (while doing other stuff) several times. I guess it's my snake jazz. The crisp echo of nearby buildings got turned into a legit reverb. The bird call is like an alien voice. Not sure why, but the formants or such make this easily identifiable as a living source vs. electronic. At least that is my impression. I put a brief proper speed call at the very end for reference (it is, of course, in key). I did what I could to put some beats and tones to it. LINKS https://www.elektron.se/
